How to Dress an Infant

Things You'll Need:

  • Diapers
  • Socks For Cycling
  • Jackets
  • Jackets
  • Hats Or Visors
  1. Step 1

    Change baby's diaper.

  2. Step 2

    Unless weather is hot, dress baby in a cotton body unit with short sleeves, known as a "one-sie."

  3. Step 3

    If weather is cold, dress baby in a turtleneck.

  4. Step 4

    Gently pull on leggings, pants or dress.

  5. Step 5

    Pull on socks, since babies get cold easily.

  6. Step 6

    Zip up a jacket or button a sweater if heading outside.

  7. Step 7

    Top off with a hat or headband.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your baby doesn't like getting dressed, turn it into a fun game of peek-a-boo.
  • Distract baby by letting him/her hold a small toy while being dressed.
  • Don't pull too hard on baby's head or limbs while trying on clothes. If head, arm or leg openings are too tight, obtain a larger size of clothing.

on 6/30/2006 I always found it difficult to shove my toddler's arms into sleeves, until I realized that you can pull the arm back through, if you put your hand through the end of the sleeve. Easy-peasy!

on 2/12/2007 Most babies hate having clothes put on over their heads. If you put the shirt over the back of the baby's head first you can then quickly pull it down over their face.
