How to Make a Diaper Teddy Bear Cake
One of the most popular gifts to bring to a baby shower is a diaper cake. It can be created in either one, two or three tiers containing gifts stuffed inside and hanging outside of the teddy bear cake.

- Moderately Easy

Decide whether you are going to use cloth or disposable diapers and if you want a cake with one, two or three tiers. The size of the cake is determined by the size of the cardboard base. A base that holds 30 diapers, for example, will probably need about half that amount for the second tier and about 5 for the top tier. This will also depend on whether you use thinner cloth diapers or thicker disposable ones.

Place the cardboard base on the table. Place a baby bottle standing up in the center. Remove the diapers from the box. Do not spread them open. Roll and secure with a rubber band or tape. Place the rolled diapers upwards standing on the base-around the baby bottle-with rubber bands or tape (the baby bottle will later be removed and will create a hole in the center to hide gifts). Finish the base tier, add gifts and cover with a receiving blanket as shown on the picture.

Add baby sleepers, baby lotion, shirts, blankets or anything that you would want to give as a gift. Use decorative wide ribbon around the cake, drape it with little shirts. Hang rattles outside of the cake. Remember this is your gift and your project so have fun creating and then presenting this to the mother to be.

Tips & Warnings
When using multicolored disposable diapers, try not to allow the colors to show.
Use any size of diaper.
Make the cake wider by wrapping a layer or two of unrolled diapers around each tier, or wrap around layers of undershirts or baby towels.
Use your own imagination and creativity to decorate and adorn the cake.
Use a blue teddy bear for a boy. If the gender is not known, a white or yellow bear would be suitable.

I usually don't attach the layers. You don't want to damage any diaper. It sometimes will look like the leaning tower of Piza! However, like regular wedding cakes... they are assembled on site. You can take each layer in separately and asssemble it at the event. -
