Threading yarn into a needle for an embroidery or plastic canvas project can be extremely frustrating. You can buy a metallic needle threaders and watch the little wire snap on your first attempt at using it--or you can follow this easy method of getting that 2-ply yarn through the large eye of the needle.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • String or thread
  1. Step 1

Cut a 4- to 5-inch piece of string or thread. Pull on it to make sure it will not break easily.

  2. Step 2

Lay the string flat on a surface. Place the yarn over it. Fold the string over the yarn.

  3. Step 3

Feed both ends of the string into the eye of the needle at once.

  4. Step 4

Grasp the string ends and pull through the needle eye. The yarn should move along with the string.

  5. Step 5

Use the string to gently tug the yarn through the eye of the needle. Hold the longest part of the yarn and pull the short end completely through the hole. Remove the string.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have quilting thread, it is ideal to use with this method.
  • If the yarn is not pulling through, do not tug hard. You might snap your needle.
