Step 1
Look at the general appearance of the Weimaraner. It is a medium-sized dog with speed, stamina and balance. Males are 25 to 27 inches at the wither and females are 23 to 25 inches at the withers. Males weigh 70 to 85 pounds and females weigh 55 to 70 pounds.

Step 2
Make sure the head has an aristocratic look. It should have a kind and intelligent expression. The eyes may be gray, blue-gray or a light amber color. They set rather far apart. The long ears sit high on the head and are lobular. They are slightly folded. When extended forward, they are about 2 inches from the point of the nose. The nose is gray.

Step 3
Notice the well-developed body. The medium-length back slopes just a bit from the withers. The chest is muscled and merges into angulated shoulders. The strong front legs are straight, leading to compact, webbed feet. The toes are arched and protected by thick pads. The rear is also angulated and sports well developed muscles. The docked tail should measure about 6 inches long.

Step 4
Pet the short, smooth coat. It is a solid color and colors can range from mouse-gray to silver-gray. The head and ears may be a light shade. There should be no white on the Weimaraner, except for a small marking on the chest.
