Read the label on the hat. This is the only way to know if you are using the correct washing method. If there are not any washing instructions on the label, visit the company website to see if you can find instructions online.

2
Hand wash the hat. If putting the hat in the dryer worries you, then this is the best way to wash the hat. It is necessary to wash certain types of hats by hand, such as those made from wool.

3
Run the hat through the dishwasher. Put the hat on the rack, the same way that you would a glass or bowl, while the dishwasher is empty. Load dishwasher detergent in the dishwasher. Keep in mind that certain types of materials, such as wool, should not be run through the dishwasher.

Dry hats by hanging them up or using a blow dryer. Do not dry hats by putting them in the clothes dryer. If you put hats in the dryer, it is likely they will shrink. Whether they are fitted hats or not, they will probably no longer feel comfortable on the head.

5
Use an anti-bacterial air freshener whenever possible. This helps prevent needing to wash your hat too frequently. This gets rid of the scents that come with sweat. A light hand washing may also be a good idea, if you cannot wash your hat any other way.

I would be carefull using dishwasher detergents with certain hats....I used it on a black hat and it turned out significantly faded...it almost looks brown now...maybe laundry detergent would work better...??
