How to Find Cuba's Best Tourist Spots

Cuba is a gorgeous Caribbean island nation with rich history and natural beauty. It has long been a favorite for tourists, and in the earlier part of the twentieth century, it was the most popular Caribbean island destination of them all. With the rich history of Old Havana and the many cathedrals and lovely beaches, there is no shortage of interesting and beautiful sights to see in this nation.

      Relax at Varadero. Varadero is a gorgeous resort town in Matanzas, Cuba. It is one of the largest resorts in all of the Caribbean. With its white sand beaches, caves and parks, Varadero makes the ideal tourist spot. It is a great place to go swimming, fishing, scuba diving and yachting.

      Explore Old Havana in Cuba's capital city. Old Havana is the heart of the city, an exquisite area rich in history and full of neoclassical and baroque architecture. With the Spanish-style courtyards and general ambiance, Old Havana has countless sights to see, including La Cabana fortress and the Museum of the Revolution, which is located in the old Presidential Palace.

      Visit City Museum (Museo de la Ciudad) in Havana. This museum is nestled inside the mesmerizing baroque architecture of the Palacio de los Capitanes. The museum highlights and educates visitors on Havana's fascinating history. One of the most interesting parts of the museum is the Hall of Heroic Cuba which has an extensive display of artifacts from the Revolution.

      Go to Castillo de San Pedro del Morro. This massive fortress is located at the entrance of the Bay of Santiago. With its clifftop location, this large structure took many decades to build, and was completed at the latter portion of the seventeenth century. The fortress has had many roles--from protection against pirates to even being a jail. Now open to the public, there is also a naval museum inside of the fortress.

      Check out Jardin Botanico Soledad in the Cienfuegos Province. This tranquil garden was built by sugar plantation owner Edwin Atkins, as a site to experiment with his gardening techniques. The 220-acre garden has over 2,000 plant species, including exotic and unusual varieties. There are great guided tours of the gardens offered here, so visitors can learn the history behind the plants.

  • Cuba might not be one of the largest countries out there, but it's jam-packed with rich history and wonderful nature to explore. Allow yourself at least a week to explore this country, if possible.
