Photo storage boxes are common items in most households. They hold photographs well but usually lack style. To add your own personal touch to a photo storage box, decorate it with tissue paper. This way you can display your photo storage box instead of hiding it away.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Solid-colored photo storage box
  • Tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Trash bag or plastic sheeting
  • Decoupage medium
  • Small paintbrush
  1. Step 1

Fold sheets of the patterned or colored tissue paper into a small square. Cut the folded tissue paper into strips of varying widths. Set the strips aside.

  2. Step 2

Cover your entire work surface with a trash bag or plastic sheeting to protect the surface from being damaged. Paint a wide line of the decoupage medium widthwise on the lid of the photo storage box. Lay a strip of the tissue paper on the decoupage medium. Using the paintbrush, smooth out the strip of tissue paper so there are no wrinkles in it. Fold each end of the tissue paper strip over the sides and onto the inside of the lid. Add more decoupage medium to make the strip stick inside the lid.

  3. Step 3

Repeat the process of laying strips across the width of the photo storage box lid until the whole lid is covered with tissue paper. Then repeat the same process, but this time run the strips of tissue paper lengthwise across the lid.

  4. Step 4

Start the same process on the base of the photo storage box. Apply the decoupage medium across the width of one side of the box. Apply the strips of tissue paper and smooth them out evenly. Finish the whole width of the entire box before you start laying strips lengthwise. Apply the tissue paper strips along the length of the box just like you did for the lid. Cover the entire box with strips going lengthwise.

  5. Step 5

Paint one final coat of the decoupage medium on both the lid and the base of the box. This will help to ensure that the tissue paper will not come off.

  6. Step 6

Let the entire box and lid dry before you place anything in the box or place the lid on top of the box.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cover the entire box and the lid going in one direction before you start going in the other direction. If you don't, it may mess up the pattern of the paper and look sloppy.
  • Smooth out all the tissue paper strips with the paintbrush to ensure a smooth finish. Pay special attention to the corners on the lid and box.
