A buzz cut is a male hairstyle characterized by closely cropped hair that is cut to a uniform length. It's a style popularized by athletes, military personnel and balding men. It's also one of the easiest haircuts to get.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide to get a buzz cut. This type of hairstyle is not for everyone, as it makes your face more defined and your jaw wider. A buzz cut also make a person's facial features more noticeable.

  2. Step 2

Decide on the length of the cut. Standard hair clippers buzz the hair in increments between 1/8 to 1 inch. The attachments for the clippers are numbered 1 through 8, with the number representing the length in eighths of an inch. For example, a #1 attachment would cut hair 1/8 inch, a #2 attachment would cut hair 1/4 inch and so on. There is also an #.5 attachment that cuts hair to 1/16 inch (a #0 refers to a bare-blade cut, which is usually as short as 1/100 inch).

  3. Step 3

Go to your barber or hairstylist for the haircut. To avoid a surprise, be sure to tell your stylist exactly what type of cut you want and a specific length, if you have one in mind. Avoid using the generic "buzz cut" term, as the length can vary from stylist to stylist. Also, in some shops, a buzz cut is often confused with a crew cut, in which the hair usually cut longer and is not of uniform length.

  4. Step 4

Start with a longer length and ask your stylist to go progressively shorter until you find a length that suits you. Don't start with one of the shortest lengths, because if you find it's too short, there's no going back.

  5. Step 5

Enjoy your new buzz cut. It's a cooler, less maintenance look. And if you don't like it, the hair will always grow back.

Tips & Warnings
  • A buzz cut is also an easy do-it-yourself haircut using clippers.
