Instructions

    • 1

Take the cap off of the acorns. The caps are the pieces of the acorns that sit on top of the acorn like a hat.

    • 2

Wash the acorns to get rid of any dirt that may be stuck to them. You need them to be smooth to paint them. Dry the acorns off with a towel.

    • 3

Lay out some newspapers across your workspace area. This will protect your table or workspace area. Place a cup of water and a paintbrush on the newspapers as your tools. Also place your acorns on the table.

    • 4

Pour some of each color paint out on a paper plate to make a homemade palate. This makes it easier for you to paint without interruption.

    • 5

Paint your acorn orange. Paint the whole thing with two coats. If the paint is quick drying you won't have to wait long for the second coat. If you have more than one acorn to paint then the first acorn should be ready for a second coat by the time you are done painting the others.

    • 6

Paint a jack-o'-lantern face on each of the acorns with the black paint. Try to make each face a little different.

    • 7

Use yellow paint to make the jack-o'-lantern face so that the pumpkin looks like it is being lit with a candle. This is an optional step.

    • 8

Wait for the acorn pumpkins to dry and display them proudly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the weather is nice take your kids and the materials outside and let them go to town.

  • Wear a smock or some old clothes so that you don't ruin anything you have on.
