How to Get Waves With a Curling Iron

Instructions

    • 1

Comb your hair to get any knots out. Spray heat protecting spray all over your hair or as directed. You want to have a fresh clean head of hair to begin with. Pull up half of your hair on top of your head. Use a clip to keep it in place. Section the bottom half, also using clips if necessary to keep what you are not using at the moment out of the way.

    • 2

Plug in the curling iron near a mirror. Get the iron nice and hot. Place your chair or bar stool in front of the mirror. This keeps you comfortable because depending on how much hair that you have to wave, you may be in front of the mirror a while.

    • 3

Take different sized sections of hair to wrap around your curling iron. Before you start wrapping remember where your part is and which way you want your hair to lay. This is important to keep the hair going in the direction that you desire.

    • 4

Wrap hair onto the curling iron. You are not putting the hair into the curling iron clamp. Hold the curling iron in one hand with your hair in the other hand, wrap onto the iron going into the direction that you want your hair to lay. You want the hair to be wrapped as close to the root as possible (very similar to making rings, just on the outside of the iron) and all the way to the ends. Leave it for approximately 5 seconds or until you can feel that your hair is heated.

    • 5

Remove hair from iron. Comb fingers through the hair (do this after you have curled all the hair that you want waves in). This will separate the curls, leaving you with beautiful wavy hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful not to burn your hand when wrapping hair.
