How to Block an Email Address on Yahoo Email

Block unwanted Yahoo emails to keep your inbox clean -- and yourself sane.

Unwanted emails and spam are a constant annoyance. They clog up your inbox, waste your time and are generally a negative addition to your Internet life. If you are getting too much unwanted email from a specific address and you use Yahoo internet mail, blocking these unsolicited missives is very easy.

Instructions

1. Sign in to your Yahoo Internet email account with your Yahoo ID and password.

2. Select the "Mail" icon. This will take you to your email inbox and tabs.

3. Click on your inbox, locate the unwanted email and click to open it.

4. Highlight the address of the sender of the unwanted email. Click the "Show Details" button in the upper right of the page if you do not see the sender's name immediately.

5. Right-click the sender's name and choose "Copy Address."

6. Locate the "Options" link in the upper left corner of your email page and click it.

7. Select "Mail options" when the scroll bar comes up.

8. Locate the "Blocked Addresses" option on the toolbar at left and click it.

9. You will see a line that reads "Add an address:" Click in the field next to it to activate your cursor.

10. Click "Ctrl+V" to paste the unwanted email address into the box. If you have a Mac, press "Command+P" instead.

11. Remove all formatting and extra words so that only the email address remains. For example, if you paste in "Jane Doe <[e-mail]>;" remove everything except for "[e-mail]" (don't include quotes).

12. Click the "+" button next to the box input field to add the unwanted email address to the list of addresses to block.

Tips & Warnings

• You can always remove a blocked email from the list if you want to by following steps 1-8, locating the address in the Blocked Addresses box and then clicking on the trash can icon to the right of the box.

• You can only block up to 500 email addresses with the free email version of Yahoo Mail.
