How to Replace an Air Filter in Nissan Cars

A clean air filter is important for good gas mileage and engine longevity, because it allows air to freely flow to the engine.

Under The Hood:

 How to Replace an Air Filter in a Nissan Altima

Turn the Altima off. Keep the car off while servicing the air filter as it acts as it is the protection against engine backfires.

Lift the hood of the Nissan. Locate the air filter housing unit on the driver's side of the car. Look along the center along the side of the engine compartment.

Open the lid on the air filter housing unit by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place. Lift the lid off of the unit.

Remove the old filter from the housing unit by pulling it out. Clean any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Use a damp cloth to wipe both the interior and exterior of the unit.

Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2374, for a Nissan Altima that was manufactured between 1993 and 2008.

Close the lid on the housing unit. Secure the lid in place by tightening all of the screws.

 How to Replace an Air Filter in a Nissan Sentra

Turn the Sentra off. Keep the car off while working on the air filter to protect yourself from possible engine backfires.

Lift the hood of the Nissan. Locate the air filter housing unit along the driver's side of the car, near the center of the side.

Remove the lid from the housing unit by unscrewing the screws with a screwdriver, then lifting it off.

Take the old filter from the housing unit by gently pulling it out. Clean any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe both the internal and external surfaces of the unit down with a slightly damp cloth.

Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2376, for a Sentra manufactured during the years 2007 to 2008. Use part number 33-2031-2 for a Sentra manufactured between 1991 and 2006.

Put the lid back in place. Replace the screws and tighten them with a screwdriver.

 How to Replace an Air Filter in a Nissan Pathfinder

Turn the Pathfinder off. Prevent injury from engine backfires by keeping the car off while performing maintenance on the air filter.

Lift the hood of the Nissan. Locate the air filter housing unit at the front corner on the driver's side of the car.

Loosen the screws on the lid of the housing unit with a screwdriver. Lift the lid off of the unit.

Remove the old filter from the housing unit by pulling it out. Clean any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe both the interior and exterior down with a damp cloth.

Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2286, for a Pathfinder manufactured from 2004 to 2008. Locate older Nissan air filter part numbers online or at your local auto part store.

Replace the lid on the filter housing unit. Tighten the screws with the screwdriver.

 How to Replace an Air Filter in a Nissan Maxima

Turn the Maxima off. Leave the car off while working on the air filter, it is a barrier against engine backfires.

Lift the hood of the Nissan. Locate the air filter housing unit on the driver's side of the car. Look for a black box that has a large hose attached to it that leads to the engine.

Open the lid on the air filter housing unit by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place. Lift the lid off of the unit.

Pull the old filter from the housing unit. Clean any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe down the surfaces of the housing unit with a damp cloth.

Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2031-2, for a Nissan Maxima manufactured between 1982 and 2008.

Close the lid on the housing unit and tighten the screws.
