Instructions

  1. Replace Your Sunroof Gasket

    • 1

Disconnect the trim and headliner from the roof of your interior by unscrewing each piece and setting aside. Consider taking photographs to help you install the sections in their proper position after your repairs are complete.

    • 2

Unplug the power source from the back of the sunroof and remove the screws and bolts that hold the sunroof tight.

    • 3

Ask a friend to help you lift the sunroof up and away from your Chevy Silverado, so you don't damage either the sunroof or the truck.

    • 4

Tug the existing rubber gasket out of its channel. Use a plastic scraping tool to help remove stubborn rubber or adhesive until the channel is clean. Inspect the channel for rust and paint it with Rustoleum to prevent further corrosion.

    • 5

Install the new rubber gasket, starting with outer lip first, then the inner lip. Inspect your work for wrinkles or bulges. If you find any, lift the gasket out and reinstall at those areas. You want the gasket to lay flat and evenly inside the channel.

    • 6

Put your sunroof back onto the top of the truck and secure it with the screws and bolts you removed earlier. Don't forget to plug the roof back into its power source. Replace the interior headliner and trim sections.

    Maintain Your Sunroof

    • 7

Inspect the exterior of your sun roof of your Chrysler Sebring on a monthly basis. Look to make sure it's evenly seated, not lifting at one corner. Lifting indicates it's time to clean and lubricate the tracks.

    • 8

Check the draining tubes for your Chrysler Sebring. Two drain to the front of your vehicle, typically beneath the fenders; the other two drain to the rear of your vehicle, usually behind your tail lights. Use compressed air to blow out any debris, dust or clogs.

    • 9

Access the tracks and seals of your Chrysler Sebring's sunroof by removing the interior trim and letting the roof cover drop. You don't need to completely remove it, just let it hang. Use compressed air to remove debris, then lubricate the tracks with 3-In-One lubricant and reinstall your interior roof.

    • 10

Lubricate and clean your rubber gasket. Wipe them off with a clean rag, then use the lubricant outlined in your owner's manual. If your seal is stiff or show signs of excessive wear, replace it to prevent leaks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never use WD40 to lubricate the tracks on your sun roof, as it's water based and will cause damage and leaking.

  • Contact your dealer if you have difficulty opening or closing your sun roof opening in 1995 to 2002 Chrysler Sebring models. There were several technical service bulletins issued for this issue.
