How to Clean the Front of the Radiator in a Mitsubishi 3000GT
The core of your Mitsubishi 3000GT, the radiator, cools down the engine and protects it from overheating. The cooling process for the 3000GT pulls in air when you drive, which also causes leaves, insects, dirt and other debris to suck into the fins (vents) of the radiator and hold heat. Clean the front of the radiator in a Mitsubishi 3000GT to prevent overheating.

1
Wait until your engine cools prior to cleaning the radiator because you could damage a hot engine if cold water gets on it. Moreover, a hot engine is dangerous to work on. A hot engine means the radiator holds hot coolant under intense pressure.
-
2
Prop your hood open. Find the rectangular-shaped radiator behind the grille near the front of the vehicle. This area applies to the 3.0L V6 engine.

3
Scrub the front of the radiator gently after dipping the nylon brush into the soapy water. The wet brush helps loosen dead insects and other debris. Place your brush between the grille and the radiator or directly through slots in the grille.
-
4
Rub softly in the direction of the radiator fins because scrubbing against the direction of the delicate metal fins bends them. Put the hose between the grille and the radiator, or spray the radiator directly through the grille. Keep the water pressure on low because too much pressure will bend the fragile fins.

5
Use gentle streams of water to rinse the front of your radiator. Repeat this process every 12,000 miles or according to scheduled maintenance in your owner's manual.

Tips & Warnings
Consider a long handle nylon brush to clean your radiator's tough-to-reach places. You could use this same brush to clean through the grille or remove the grille to clean the front of your radiator. When removing the grille, contact a licensed mechanic to ensure proper removal and replacement. Ask a mechanic for help if your grille contains mesh wiring and you are unable to clean between the grille and the radiator.
