Things You'll Need:
- Jack and jack stands or ramp
- Oil drip pan
- Wrench or socket set
-
Step 1
Take your vehicle out and drive it for at least 5 to 10 minutes to allow the oil to move through the vehicle. Park it on a flat surface safe for jacking it up.
-
Step 2
Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the oil fill cap. The cap is located on the right side of the vehicle on the side of the engine, labeled.
-
Step 3
Jack up the vehicle following the directions provided with the jack. Use jack stands appropriate for the Corvette to hold the vehicle up, or use vehicle ramps to raise the vehicle.
-
Step 4
Drain the engine oil by first placing an oil drip pan under the vehicle's oil pan, located between the tires on the right side of the car. Remove the oil plug using a wrench and allow all oil to drain from the oil pan, then remove the drip pan.
-
Step 5
Place a drip pan under the radiator hose under the vehicle, at the front of the vehicle. Remove the cooling system pressure cap located at the front of the vehicle under the hood. Disconnect the radiator hose next to the cap and allow it to drain into the drip pan below.
-
Step 6
Disconnect the negative battery cable, the engine front cover and the oil pump, screen and deflector using a wrench. Each is located on or near the oil pan under the Corvette.
-
Step 7
Unscrew each of the oil pan bolts located around the perimeter of the pan. Use a wrench to gently remove each bolt while supporting the oil pan with your other hand. The oil pan will drop off.
