How to Install a Car Alarm in a Kia Spectra
Installing an alarm in the Kia Spectra is a great way to protect the vehicle and its contents. Putting a car alarm in the Kia Spectra requires a working knowledge of car electrical systems and connections. Installing an alarm in the Kia Spectra is difficult because of the tight area under the dash, which requires special care when mounting the system.
Instructions
-
-
1
Ensure you fully understand the alarm installation manual and the connections required. Open the hood and disconnect the positive battery cable.
-
2
Push the driver seat all the way back and remove the lower dash panel. Install the shock sensor per the alarm manual's instructions and run the wires to the area under the dash. Drill a small hole in the dash or center console for the LED light and snap it into place.
-
-
3
Find the door lock relay and attach the alarm lock module if equipped. Identify the starter wire in the ignition bundle at the back of the steering wheel and connect the start disable relay.
-
4
Connect the alarm power wire to the positive battery cable and mount the alarm in an open space in the engine bay, facing the engine or firewall. Run all of the wires along the body panels to the driver's side of the firewall.
-
5
Feed the wires through the firewall using an existing hole in front of the steering wheel. Locate the wires coming from the engine bay, pull them through and connect them to the alarm control module. Attach the rest of the wires to the control module.
-
6
Push the control module to the back, right side of the dash, behind the stereo. Drop the control module gently into the cage behind the radio and secure the wires to the metal divider.
-
7
Reconnect the positive battery cable and test the alarm. Adjust the sensitivity if desired and secure any loose wires with zip ties.

I own a 2009 Kia Spectra and CANNOT get an alarm to sound when I open the door. Yes, the dome light is set to turn on when the door is opened and I don't have anything plugged in drawing current to give a false reading. I've installed two different DIY 2-wire alarms and every feature works but the voltage sensor. It must be how these cars are wired. I even tried going through the fuse panel by the drivers left side and still nothing. I'm assuming the dome light circuit is what I need to tap in to although Kia calls it the "room" light. It also controls the dash clock memory. I'm trying to avoid having a pro cut into factory wiring and since I don't have keyless entry, power windows or doors I just want an entry alarm and car locator set-up. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks
