Installing a car alarm on the Dodge Ram truck requires considerable knowledge of car electronics for a proper installation. The 2009 model Dodge Ram uses a wiring system that controls all of the trucks features and engine through a single data wire and professional installation is required. Earlier model Dodge Ram trucks use standard wiring and about two hours to install.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Alarm kit with vehicle wiring adaptors
  • Drill
  • Screwdrivers
  • Zip ties
  1. Step 1

Read the alarm manual carefully and ensure you have a clear understanding of the connection methods the manufacturer recommends. Open the hood and remove the positive battery cable from the terminal. Connect the alarm power wire to the positive battery cable and pull the wire to the driver's side of the firewall.

  2. Step 2

Mount the alarm siren in an open area of the engine bay, facing the engine to limit water exposure when driving. Run the wires to firewall and feed all of the wires into the cabin through the existing hole directly in front of the steering wheel.

  3. Step 3

Install the shock sensor per the manufacturer's instructions and run the wire to a central point under the dash. Connect the power lock module to the lock relay near the fuse box if the truck is equipped.

  4. Step 4

Drill a small hole in the dash or center console for the LED light and snap it into place. Identify the starter wire in the ignition harness behind the steering wheel and attach the start disable relay.

  5. Step 5

Connect all of the wires to the alarm control module. Mount the control module as far into the Dodge Ram's dash as possible with zip ties. Reconnect the positive battery cable and test the alarm. Adjust the alarm sensitivity and secure any loose wires.

Tips & Warnings
  • Alarm systems on newer model Dodge Ram's integrate with the onboard computer system. Never attempt an alarm installation without fully understanding the wiring and connections required.
