Things You'll Need:
- 1/2-inch Breaker bar or ratchet
- Replacement belt
-
Step 1
Find the belt tensioner. You must loosen the tensioner to be able to take the old serpentine belt off. The tensioner will be at the front of the engine on the right--under the air conditioner compressor pulley--and fairly accessible.
-
Step 2
Rotate the belt tensioner bolt clockwise with your breaker bar or ratchet to loosen tension on the belt, and slip the belt off of all of the pulleys.
-
Step 3
Use the belt routing diagram provided by the manufacturer to install the new belt on each pulley. You can find the belt routing diagram on the Ford Mustang on the radiator panel, or sometimes on the fan shroud. If you can't find the manufacturer's belt routing diagram, use the Dayco belt routing and accessory site to find the diagram for your Ford Mustang.
-
Step 4
Seat the belt on all the pulleys by rotating the tensioner again, then let the tensioner self-adjust to regain tension on the belt. Make sure the belt is correctly seated on all pulleys.
-
Step 5
After checking that the belt is seated on all pulleys, run the engine and check for correct installation.
