Things You'll Need:
- Windshield washer reservoir
- Screwdriver
- Seals
- Washer fluid
- Drain bucket
-
Step 1
Shop for a new windshield washer reservoir after finding the part number for your Saturn Ion, which depends on the year of your car. See the Resources section for places to start your online search.
-
Step 2
Select a level surface to work on your Saturn Ion --be sure there's plenty of room. After putting your car in park, turn it off, put on the emergency brake and exit the car. With your right hand, reach in and pull the hood release.
-
Step 3
Access the engine compartment by releasing the auxiliary release latch under the hood. Raise the hood until the hydraulic lift kicks in and opens it fully.
-
Step 4
Find the windshield washer reservoir. The reservoir in the Saturn Ion is the black-capped reservoir located near the front right corner of the engine compartment. A waterspout is on the cap.
-
Step 5
Pour fluid into the reservoir to locate the leak, and if it's small, you may be able to patch it, otherwise, replace the whole reservoir. Disconnect the battery's negative cable and wait 90 seconds before stating to work, if your Saturn Ion is equipped with air bags.
-
Step 6
Detach the hose and connector from the washer pump. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the two lower screws and the upper screw that attach the reservoir to your Saturn Ion. Then, lift out the reservoir and toss the seals.
-
Step 7
Locate the air induction assembly and the two retainers on the reservoir and undo them. Next, remove the washer pump by pulling it out of the reservoir.
-
Step 8
Install the new windshield washer reservoir, by first reattaching the pump. Then fasten the air induction assembly to the reservoir with the two retainers.
-
Step 9
Put the reservoir assembly in your Saturn Ion, redo the screws, replace the seals and connect the electrical lead and the hose. Finally, reconnect the negative battery cable and fill the new reservoir with windshield washer fluid.
