Things You'll Need:
- Car of similar style
- Phillips screwdriver
-
Step 1
Make any necessary repairs to your car before you adjust the headlights.
-
Step 2
Get ready to make the adjustment. Have a half-full tank of gas, the proper air pressure in your tires and your normal cargo in the car before you adjust the aim. You may want to have someone of similar physique sit in the driver's seat.
-
Step 3
Find a wall at least 6 feet high near a level area. Park your car Mazda 6 next to a car with a similar body style. The headlights on each car should face the wall at a distance of 25 feet.
-
Step 4
Open the hood. You may have a built-in level to help you determine the adjustment. Typically if the bubble hits within two lines of the center, you shouldn't need to adjust the lights.
-
Step 5
Locate your adjustment screws. The location of the screws depends on the type of headlights you have on your Mazda 6. You may have composite headlights bolted to the frame, composite headlights bolted to adjuster plates, sealed beam units or dual beam headlights.
-
Step 6
Turn the low beam headlights on. Twist the screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
-
Step 7
Adjust your headlights to match the path for the headlights on the other Mazda 6. Stop adjusting when the path for your headlights matches the other car. Also keep an eye on the built in level, if you have one.
