Ensure that the Chevy Silverado motor is cool. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the wiring harness. Remove the spark plug wires. Remove the crankcase vent hose, oil level tube bracket and the air cleaner tube bracket.

  2. Step 2

Remove the air conditioning compressor, EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation) valve inlet pipe, PCV valve and hose and the power brake vacuum pipe. Move these parts out of your way so that you can have access to the valve cover. Remove the valve cover bolts using a 9/16 mm wrench. Lifting straight up remove the valve cover.

  3. Step 3

Remove the old gasket and using degreaser or automotive engine cleaner, a brush and a cloth clean the seating area. Place the new gasket in the gasket seating area. Place the valve cover back. Using a torque wrench tighten the bolts.

  4. Step 4

Put the air conditioning compressor, EGR valve inlet pipe, PCV valve and hose and the power brake vacuum pipe back into place. Put the crankcase vent hose, oil level tube bracket and the air cleaner tube bracket back into place. Put the spark plug wires back. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

  5. Step 5

Put oil back into the car and start the engine, letting it run for about 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow the oil to move to the top of the engine, lubricating the parts.
