Things You'll Need:
- Tread wear gauge
-
Step 1
Look closely at the sidewalls of your Corvette tires. Most late-model Corvette tires have tread wear indicators that point to a shallow portion of the tire tread that, when it shows no tread, indicates it's time to change the tire.
-
Step 2
Pick up a tread wear gauge at your local auto parts store. The tread wear gauges are normally located near the tire care parts, such as pressure gauges and valve stems.
-
Step 3
Bend down and examine the tire for abnormal wear and low spots on the tire tread. Choose a spot on the tread that looks to be fairly low.
-
Step 4
Insert the tread wear gauge in several places across the tread of the tire. Check at least five places across the tire.
-
Step 5
Note the lowest reading you obtain with the tread wear gauge. Keep in mind that with any readings less than 1/16 of an inch, you'll need to replace the tire.
-
Step 6
Get new tires for your Corvette. You need sie 245/40-18 tires on the front, and 285/35-19 on the rear. These will have the load rating of LL for your Chevy Corvette.
