How to Maintain Power Steering Fluid Levels in a Honda CR-V
The Honda CR-V has been a popular SUV throughout its production and, as with other Honda vehicles, basic maintenance is easy for owners to perform. Fluid levels should be checked every 15,000 miles just to make sure that the fluid levels and conditions are good, but if you find yourself having to refill power steering fluid sooner than 65,000 or more miles, check for leaks immediately.

1
Check your power steering fluid level when you check other fluid levels in your Honda CR-V, which should be every 15,000 miles. Check fluid levels sooner if you have steering difficulties or notice any fluid leaking from under the hood.
-
2
Park your Honda CR-V on a level surface to check the fluids and wait for the engine to cool before checking power-steering fluid as warm fluid can result in an inaccurate reading.

3
Locate the power steering fluid reservoir near the engine. The reservoir should be clearly labeled. You can read the fluid level using the markings on the outside of the reservoir. Check to make sure the fluid is above the low level mark.
-
4
Add fluid if necessary, but make sure that you do not fill the fluid above the maximum level. If you do overfill the fluid, drain excess fluid by disconnecting the hose attached to the bottom of the reservoir.
-
5
Check the hoses and clamps connected to the power steering reservoir every time you check the fluids to make sure that there are no breaks or cracks in the components that could result in a leak.

Tips & Warnings
If you notice that your power steering fluid is foaming in the reservoir, air may be getting into the fluid. Replace the power steering pump to eliminate the air intake problem immediately to avoid a burst hose or leak that could damage the vehicle.
