Instructions

Pick the right fighter for you. Street Fighter 2 boasts a wide list of fighters to choose from. If you like speed, there's Vega or Chun Li. If you're looking for power, look at Balrog or E. Honda. If you like a more well-rounded fighter, try Ken or Ryu. Having the wrong fighter for your style will guarantee you losing.

Start off with simple moves. Punches and kicks cannot be overlooked. While most focus on learning how to throw Dhalsim's Yoga punches or Ken's Rising Punch, the simple moves can take out the best player if they're not careful. Also learn your throws by getting up close and pressing the throw combo buttons.

Don't throw special moves too often. Sonic Booms or Yoga Fires are cool and can do much damage, but throwing your special moves too often will let your opponent leap over them and find you vulnerable. Only use a special move when very close or when your opponent is dizzy (you'll see the little stars over their head).

Be ready to block. Whether it's punches, kicks or your foe's special move, always be prepared to pull back and block. Many players get beaten by running in and throwing everything only to have a fireball or spinning kick catch them off-guard. Be quick with the defense.

Corner them! With the exception of E. Honda's Hurrican Hands and Blanka's Electrical Field, most fighters suffer greatly once cornered and have little defense. Go in with a leg sweep and start pounding as they rise up. Several seconds in the corner will almost guarantee your win.
