How to Make a Handprint Christmas Tree Decoration

A handprint Christmas tree is a unique item your children can make to ready the house for the holidays. This Christmas craft project, made entirely out of your child's handprints, makes not only a great decoration but a unique family memento as well. With a few craft materials and a couple minutes of your time, you can have a beautiful Christmas decoration ready to display in your home.

    • Construction paper
    • Scissors
    • Pencil
    • Multicolored buttons
    • Glue
    • Glitter (optional)
    • Markers (optional)

        Trace 10 handprints onto green construction paper. These handprints will form the Christmas tree's leaves and branches.

        Use scissors to cut out the handprints you just traced.

        Glue the handprints together in the shape of a Christmas tree. Start with four handprints on the bottom row, their fingers pointing down. Glue the sides of each handprint together. Then form another row on top of that row with three handprints, then another row with two handprints, and finally a row with only one handprint.

        Draw a rectangle on brown construction paper and some ball-shaped ornaments on multicolored sheets of construction paper.

        Cut out the brown rectangle and multicolored ornament shapes.

        Use glue to attach the brown rectangle as a trunk on the bottom of your Christmas tree, and the multicolored ornaments to the limbs of your tree.

        Dab dots of glue into a necklace shape across the branches of your handprint Christmas tree, and place differently colored buttons on the dots of glue to form garland.

        Make a large yellow construction-paper star for your Christmas tree, and glue it on the very top. You can use glitter to decorate your star and make it sparkle.
