How to Play Drinking Cops

"Cops" is a legendary TV show that's been on for over a decade. Its timeslot on Saturday nights ensures that it will be on when you're most likely to be drinking and partying with friends. Whether you're having a couple of pregame drinks or spending the night at home with a group of buddies, Drinking Cops can be an entertaining way to spend a few hours.

Things You'll Need:

• Drink (beer, wine, malt beverage, hard liquor)
• Episode(s) of "Cops" on TV
• Pencil
• Paper

1. Gather friends. There is no minimum or maximum of players, other than not wanting to drink alone. Get at least one more person or play with as many as you have.

2. Set up the rules. Drinking Cops requires you to set up a list of items to drink for. The list can be as long or as short as you want (depending upon how much you are looking to drink). You should divide the list into subheadings such as "Guys," "Girls" and "Cops." Ideally, aim to have 3 to 5 items in each category. Some classic examples of items to be put on the list include guys with no shirt, cops with mustaches and girls with short skirts. A "General" category may be added for actions such as "allowing the search of a vehicle even though there's contraband in it" or "denying ownership of paraphernalia" (these are not gender-related). The options are limited only by your imagination. For larger groups, have each player make an individual list to keep it interesting.

3. Get your drinks. The best drinks to use for the game are lighter alcoholic beverages such as beer or malt beverages. You could also designate different beverages for different list items--just make sure that shots are done only for items that don't occur that often--or you'll be hurting quickly.

4. Sit down and play. Turn on "Cops," which can be found on Fox as well as in syndication. Every time something occurs on the show that was designated on your list, take a drink. The game lasts as long as the show is on.

5. Adjust the list. If you find that most of the items that are on your list are not happening on the show, add new items based upon what is happening. Simply call it out as you see it and write it down on the list. From there on, drinks are taken when it occurs again. A good list will definitely keep you drinking often.

Tips & Warnings

• "Cops" often has theme nights such as "Bad Girls" or "Marti Gras"; tailor your list to reflect these themes.
• "Cops" is available on DVD if you can't find it on your local TV schedule.
• Do not play drinking games if you are planning to drive. The random nature of Drinking Cops and other drinking games requires you to drink a number of drinks at a rapid pace. You can quickly become intoxicated and should not operate a vehicle afterward. Designate a driver, walk or plan on staying the night.

on 10/5/2008 This reminds me of the "Bob Show" drinking game. On the first "Bob Newhart" show (when he was a shrink), every time somebody said "Bob" we'd drink. LOL
