Things You'll Need:
- Collar
- Lead
- Treats
- Crate
-
Step 1
Begin training your Pomeranian when she is young. It is much simpler to train a young dog with no bad habits, so begin training as soon as you can.
-
Step 2
House-train your Pomeranian puppy first. Take her outside and give her the “potty” command frequently, including after she eats and wakes up. Wait outside with her until she potties, and give her a treat as praise.
-
Step 3
Place your Pomeranian puppy in her crate. Give her plenty of toys to keep her occupied and allow her to stay in the crate for longer periods of time as she gets older. Crating her while you are busy or away will keep her from getting into trouble.
-
Step 4
Secure a collar on your dog. Attach a lead and let her drag it around so it does not frighten her. Pick up the lead, and follow your Pomeranian, letting her get used to having someone follow her. Praise her and offer her a treat when she calmly allows you to walk behind her.
-
Step 5
Hold the lead in your hand and tempt your Pomeranian with a treat. Encourage her to walk beside you, giving her the treat as a reward. Continue asking her to walk beside you, eventually giving her fewer treats until she walks beside you unaided.
-
Step 6
Ask your Pomeranian to sit, and hold a treat above her nose. Move the treat backwards to encourage her to sit, giving her the reward once she sits. Use this same ask-and-reward system to teach her other commands of your choice.
-
Step 7
Work with your puppy in short, frequent sessions. She has a short attention span, and working with her often will ensure that your Pomeranian puppy grows up to be a well-trained companion.
