1. Create a driving beat. The core of electronic music is a well-defined four/four beat. Drum programming sets the tone for the song by looping a continuous thump throughout the composition. Electronic music has gained commercial success by playing on the driving beat and infusing pop lyrics into a song with simple chords. "Finally" by Ce Ce Penniston would be a good example of electronic influences in mainstream music.

2. Join an electronic music community. This can be online or at the meeting place of the local underground music scene in town. Message boards provide an opportunity to gain ideas and try new things with an audience that is open to this genre of music. Local clubs that attract electronic music fans often have regulars that form alliances and can become partners in the creation of electronic music.
