If you're Wiccan, you may decide at some point that you need a clergyperson to perform various services for you. Wicca is a nature-based faith that typically honors a god and a goddess; members of the clergy are called High Priests and High Priestesses. A Wiccan clergyperson can perform wedding or handfasting ceremonies, baby blessings, house cleansings, funeral and memorial events, or any other number of services. However, because they're not typically listed in the phone book, it may take a bit of work to find a Wiccan clergyperson. Here are some steps that can make it a bit easier to track one down.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Contact your local metaphysical shop. Chances are good that someone who works there knows someone who is a high priest or high priestess; there could even be one on staff. The shop may also maintain a list of available clergy in the area.

  2. Step 2

Check online resources. There are a number of social networking sites for Wiccans and other pagans. You can go to any of these and type "clergy" into the search engine to narrow your search. Witchvox in particular maintains an extensive database of Wiccan clergypeople who have submitted their information. See the link in Resources for more information on searching Witchvox.

  3. Step 3

Check with state licensing agencies. In some states, all clergypeople must be registered with a state licensing agency before they can legally perform marriage ceremonies. If your state is one of these, call the licensing agency and ask if they maintain a list of clergypeople sorted by religion. If they do, they can then provide you with a list of Wiccan clergypeople.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are many rituals in Wicca that can performed by anyone, not just a high priest or priestess. For example, if you need a house cleansing, or a baby blessing, any Wiccan could do it for you in a pinch. Or you can do it yourself.
  • If you are planning on a having a wedding performed by a Wiccan clergyperson, make sure you check with your state's licensing department to determine who is and isn't authorized to perform ceremonies.
