1
Change the color of your furniture. Slip covers can change the appearance of your furniture in a literal instant. For example, if you have a light, bright living room, when fall comes you might want to cover the furniture with warm red slip covers with a gold cord trim. This will immediately warm up the room and make it feel more cozy--something that is undesirable in the summer but very pleasant in the fall and winter months. Then, when spring comes around, pull off the covers and your room will immediately appear larger and brighter.

2
Toss on some different pillows and throws. Throw pillows and afghans are a great way to change the look of a room in a big hurry. If you want to distinguish between spring and summer, for example, you might have greens, yellows and other "growing colors" in your spring decor, then switch out with brighter yellows and blues for summer. Keep heavy throws to a minimum in the summer, but add cozy afghans or blankets in warm browns, golds and oranges for winter months. These also serve a practical purpose and can keep heating costs down.

3
Add candles. Candles can make any room seem brighter and cozier. Use cream colored pillars sparingly in the summer with seashells or other summery items like rocks or sand to make a pleasant candle garden. In the winter, add more of them to a room and use marbles, vases or hurricanes to magnify the light and make the room feel like it is lit by a cozy fire even if you do not have a real hearth.

4
Change your scenery. Wall decorations are often overlooked when people change their decor, but they play a major role in the overall atmosphere of a room. Use beach sculptures, outdoor prints and interesting paintings during the warmer months, then switch to abstracts in warm colors, decorative quilts and wall hangings to change the space in the room.

5
Keep everything together as much as possible. Place all seasonal decorations in a clearly labeled box so that you can easily change your decor with the season. Store everything in the same area and if possible in the same box. Then all you have to do is pull out the empty box and refill it with one season, then replace everything with things from the next season's decorations holder.
