How to Polish Stainless Steel Trim

Polishing stainless steel trim gives it a bright, glossy shine, enhancing the surface it attaches to. You can find stainless steel trim detailing on cars and appliances, adding a thin layer of silver plating that amplifies any color it lays on. Stainless steel can become dull and faded if not polished regularly, causing the entire item to appear dingy. Brighten stainless steel by polishing it with an oily product that brings out the shine.

Things You'll Need

• Liquid dish soap
• Bucket
• Sponge
• Olive oil
• Soft cloths

Instructions

1. Mix one tsp. of liquid dish soap into a bucket of warm water. Dip a sponge into the mixture and wring out the excess liquid.

2. Clean the stainless steel trim by wiping with the sponge. Remove any stains and grime from the surface.

3. Rinse the sponge with warm water and wipe over the trim, removing the soapy residue. Dry the stainless steel with a clean, soft cloth.

4. Pour one tsp. olive oil onto a clean cloth. Wipe the olive oil over the stainless steel using small circular motions. Use medium pressure and distribute the olive oil evenly onto the metal.

5. Wipe a clean cloth over the stainless steel trim to remove streaks and excess olive oil, buffing it to a high sheen.
