How to Replace an Oil Pump in a Dodge Intrepid
The oil pump is an essential piece of equipment that keeps your Dodge Intrepid running. It lubricates the engine by keeping the oil circulating. Without this lubrication, the engine wouldn't run. Drive your vehicle up onto ramps or lifts so you have room to work as you pull out the oil pump. You could also use a jack, but make sure you brace the front wheels so they don't roll. In addition, set the emergency break firmly into position so the car doesn't roll.

Drain the oil out of your Dodge Intrepid's engine.

Take out the crankshaft damper, the timing chain cover and the timing chain. Remove the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pan. It is under the engine and looks like the bottom of the motor.

Remove the oil pickup tube and the O-ring. Finally, take out the oil pump. Clean all the components and surfaces to remove debris and contaminants.

Fill the cavity of the rotor with clean engine oil then install the new oil pump over the crankshaft. Carefully set it into position.

Install the mounting bolts on the oil pump and torque them to 21 ft. lb. Lubricate the new O-ring with fresh engine oil. Torque the pickup tube mounting bolts to 21 ft. lb.

Reinstall the oil pan, the crankshaft sprocket, the timing chain, the timing chain cover and the crankshaft damper.

Put clean oil into the engine and start your Dodge Intrepid. Look for leaks in the area where you installed the new oil pump.
