How to Install a Car Alarm in a Hyundai Sonata
Installing an aftermarket car alarm in the Hyundai Sonata requires considerable knowledge of the car's electrical system. The wiring in the Hyundai Sonata changes on many model years and proper identification is required for a working installation. Better security and lower insurance rates are great reasons to take on this project.

Read the installation manual for the alarm carefully and ensure you fully understand and have identified the connections required. Open the hood and remove the positive battery cable from the terminal. Connect the alarm power wire to the positive battery cable.

Locate an area in the engine bay and mount the alarm siren. Run all of the wires along the firewall and feed them through the existing hole in front of the steering wheel.

Remove the dash panel below the steering wheel and carefully identify the wires by referencing a wiring diagram. Place the alarm control module as far back in the dash as possible and secure it with zip ties.

Drill a small hole in a clearly visible location and snap in the LED light. Mount the shock sensor per the manufacturer's instruction and run the wires to the control module.

Find the power door lock relay above the fuse box and connect the alarms power lock module if equipped. Connect the starter disable relay to the starter wire in the ignition wiring harness.

Connect the siren, power, door lock relay, LED and start disable wires to the control module. Reconnect the positive battery cable and test the alarm. Adjust the alarm sensitivity level as needed.
