How to Install a Car Alarm in a Ford F-Series

Protecting the Ford F-Series with an alarm gives you piece of mind and possibly a reduced rate on the insurance. Ford F-Series trucks have large open areas in the engine bay that makes this an easy install. Putting an aftermarket alarm in the F-Series truck requires a working knowledge of car electrical wiring and about 2 hours.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the alarm kit and read the installation instructions carefully. Identify all of the system's parts. Remove the positive cable from the battery terminal and connect the alarm's power wire to the cable. Run the cable along the firewall to the driver's side. Mount the alarm siren facing the engine and pull the wires to meet the loose end of the power wire.

    • 2

Feed the power and siren wires through the firewall using one of the existing wire bundle holes or drill a new hole in the firewall. Remove the lower panel, below the steering wheel, and pull the wires all the way into the cabin. Mount the alarm control module as far into the dash as possible; the more difficult it is to install the less likely a thief will find it.

    • 3

Mount the shock sensor per the manufacturer's instructions and pull the wire to the control module. Locate the power door lock sensor if equipped and snap in the alarm's door lock relay.

    • 4

Identify the starter wire under the steering wheel and connect the start disable rely. Run the relay wires to the control module. Drill a small hole for the LED in a highly visible location and secure the LED light.

    • 5

Connect the power, siren, LED, door and start relay wires to the alarm control module. Reconnect the positive battery cable and test the alarm. Adjust the alarm's sensitivity level if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
