How to Install a Car Alarm in a Ford Explorer

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hood and remove the positive battery cable. Connect the alarms power wire to the cable and run it along the body and firewall to the driver's side. Mount the alarm siren in an open area in the engine bay, facing towards the engine to limit water exposure while driving and pull the wires to the driver's side of the firewall.

    • 2

Feed the wires through the firewall using an existing wire pass through or drilling a small hole in front of the steering wheel. Remove the dash panel under the steering wheel by unclipping it, starting at the top right side. Secure the alarm control module as far into the dash as possible with zip ties.

    • 3

Mount the shock sensor per the manufacturer's instructions and pull the wires to the control module. If the Ford Explorer has power door locks, locate the door lock module and connect the alarm's door lock relay.

    • 4

Identify the starter wire under the steering wheel and connect the start disable relay. Install any additional options using the alarm manufacturer's directions. Connect all of the wires to the alarm control module.

    • 5

Reconnect the positive battery cable and test the alarm. Adjust the sensor's sensitivity if necessary.
