How to Deal in Cribbage
A deck of cards can be used to play a lot of different games, but one game requires an extra peg board to be played. Cribbage is a classic card game that requires a lot of skill, quick math and a little luck to make your way around the board. Dealing cribbage is a big part of the game, because most of the game is dealing your cards down to trying to make points to win.

1
Shuffle the deck. Each player cuts a card and whoever cuts the lowest card (Ace is low in Cribbage) is the dealer and awarded the first Crib.
-
2
Deal 6 cards to each player in a 2-player game. Look at your cards and decide which 4 you want to keep in your hand and which 2 you want to send to the Crib. Wait until the other player has put their 2 cards in the crib before continuing.

3
Cut the deck and have the other player pick the card right underneath it and flip it over. If the card is a Jack, the player gets to peg 2 spots. Leave the card up for scoring purposes.
-
4
Put a card face down if you are not the dealer. Otherwise wait for your opponent to issue the first card. The purpose of dealing these cards face down is to get closest to 31 without going over. Pairs, straights and other things are awarded during this as well.
-
5
Go back and forth until you have reached 31 or no one has low enough numbers to reach 31. Then the last player who put a card down gets one peg and the other player must start the count over again if they have cards left. Continue this unless neither player has any cards in their hands.
-
6
Pick up your cards and count out your points for the hand using the card that was cut from the deck. If it is your crib, then you pick up those cards and count out the points, too.
-
7
Deal 5 cards to each player if it is a 3- or 4-person game. Then each player puts one card in the crib and the dealer deals an extra card to the crib if it is a 3-player game. Everything else works the same during these games as well.
