How to Make Homemade Gatorade

Gatorade is a drink that many athletes use to keep energy up during long competitions. Gatorade is a balance of carbohydrates and electrolytes that allows longer extensive physical activity. Gatorade is expensive though. Instead, make your own sports drink that will provide similar proportions of carbohydrates, potassium and sodium as Gatorade at a fraction of the cost.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sports bottle or glass jar with lid
  • 1/2 cup orange juice or 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 8 tablespoons of table sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoons of salt
  • 2 liters of filtered water
  • Spoon
  1. Step 1

    Pour 1/2 cup of orange juice into a clean sports bottle or glass bottle.

  2. Step 2

    Stir in 8 tablespoons of table sugar until it is dissolved.

  3. Step 3

    Add 3/4 teaspoon of salt and stir until it is dissolved.

  4. Step 4

    Pour in 2 liters of filtered water.

  5. Step 5

    Shake the mixture until it is combined.

Tips & Warnings
  • Substitute 2 tablespoons of lemon juice for the orange juice if desired.
