Adopting a wild animal, such as a giraffe, can be fulfilling and exciting. You can even give an adoption to a friend or family member as a gift. The most important thing is that proceeds from your adoption go towards helping endangered species and their habitats and to help with wildlife conservation. Whether you’re adopting a giraffe from a zoo or an organization, you’re helping out. Here are a few tips to get your started.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose an organization. There are numerous organizations available that offer adoption services. WWF, World Animal Foundation, African Wildlife Foundation and Tree Frog Trading are just a few of the organizations where you can adopt a giraffe.

  2. Step 2

Find out the cost involved. Adoptions usually start at $25 and go up from there, depending on what extras you want to receive. Most donations run in increments, so you can adopt for $25, $50 and so on.

  3. Step 3

Find out what you’ll get with your adoption kit. Most adoption kits start out with the basic photo, fact sheet and animal adoption certificate. For higher adoption amounts, you will receive items such as plush toys representing your adopted giraffe, a framed certificate and a plush blanket.

  4. Step 4

Consider giving an adoption as a gift. You can give your friend or family member adoption gift packages featuring the giraffe. Your friend will receive the same packet as you would if you were receiving it yourself but it will include a gift card as well. The adoption organization will send the gift out on a specified date, such as a birthday or Mother’s Day. The packet will also indicate that the gift is from you.

  5. Step 5

Call your local zoo. Adopt a giraffe from your local zoo by going to their website or visiting the zoo. Like the organizations, you will receive information about your giraffe and a certificate of sponsorship. Adopting through a zoo gives you personal access to the giraffe you adopted, meaning you can visit and see the giraffe in person.
