How to Save Money on Dental Crowns

The price charged for dental crowns is very high. There are ways to pay less for them. You will have to spend time researching your options. It will also depend on your location and which options you can access. It will be well worth your time, and it will most likely save you money, too.

Check out the competition's prices. You may be surprised to find that prices do vary among dentists. If you need more than one crown, ask about some type of discount.

Go to the local dentist school. If you happen to be in the vicinity of a dental college, this is the place to go. Most of the colleges will charge you about one-half of what you would have to pay at a regular dentist. There is often a waiting period or only certain days of the week that you can go. The students performing the dental work are well-trained and supervised as well.

Contact the local health department for help if you are on a low income. Ask if they know any dentist who will work on a sliding-scale fee basis. Often, the department will have at least one local dentist who is willing to help out. You will most likely have to be in the lower income bracket to do this.

Go out of the country for dental crowns. If you live near (or are willing to travel to) the Mexican border, you may be able to have your dental work done there. You will more than likely save money doing this, but check out all of the details about it first.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may also be able to get a discount by paying with cash or by paying for several dental crowns at once. Ask the dentist in advance of your appointment about this.

  • Never have any dental work done by someone who is not a certified dentist.
