Clay pot bumble bees make great ornaments for flower gardens, or just on a shelf in your home. You can glue a bell inside of them, hang them up, and use them as a wind chime, too. These crafts are made out of clay terracotta pots and a few other basic craft materials. Make this cute project by yourself, or with your children for an afternoon of fun.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small terracotta pot
  • Small wooden craft ball
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Hot glue gun
  • Black and yellow craft paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • 1 black pipe cleaner
  • 2 wiggly craft eyes
  • Newspaper
  • Black craft foam
  1. Step 1

Place some old newspapers on your work surface to keep the glue and paint off of it.

  2. Step 2

Choose a terracotta pot and wooden craft ball. Use a small pot--about 3 inches--and a matching 3-inch wooden craft ball.

  3. Step 3

Paint black and yellow stripes all over the entire outside of the terracotta pot. Start with a black stripe on the bottom, and work your way up to the top, alternating black and yellow stripes.

  4. Step 4

Cover the whole wooden craft ball in black paint.

  5. Step 5

Turn your terracotta pot upside down and put it down on your work surface.

  6. Step 6

Use hot glue to attach the black wooden craft ball to the top of the pot. You should now see the shape of your bumble bee, the pot forms the body and the ball forms the head.

  7. Step 7

Make two wing shapes out of black craft foam and cut them out.

  8. Step 8

Dab two thin lines of hot glue onto the back of the bumble bee's body, and attach the two wing shapes to the terracotta pot.

  9. Step 9

Apply two wiggly craft eyes to the front of the bumble bee's head.

  10. Step 10

Cut a black pipe cleaner in half.

  11. Step 11

Hot glue one piece of pipe cleaner to each side of the top of the bumblebee's head to form antennas.

  12. Step 12

Paint a yellow smiley face onto the front of the bumblebee's face under the wiggly eyes. Display your clay pot bumble bee either in or outside of your home.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use gold or yellow glitter on the wings of the bumble bee to make them sparkle.
  • Supervise children when they are using hot glue guns.
