The improved clinch knot adds one more step to the clinch knot, making for an even stronger fishing knot. By adding this extra step, the knot strength will increase 5 to 10 percent. This knot will test close to 100 percent of the line's test weight. Follow the steps and refer to the illustrations to tie this knot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rod and reel
  • Hook or fishing lure
  • Pliers with side cutters
  1. Step 1

Thread the fishing line through the eyelet of the hook or lure. Double back about 6 inches of line.

  2. Step 2

Make five or six twists around the standing line with the tag end. Run the tag end back through the loop closet to the eyelet.

  3. Step 3

Run the tag end through the large loop that was made in Step 2. Grab the tag end and the standing line, and tighten. Use slow, even pressure. Make sure the coils of line sit next to each other, not on top of each other. Trim the tag end close to the knot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Moistening the knot will help the coils of line to sit evenly against each other when tightening.
  • Always wear safety glasses when working with hooks.
