Street Craps

Craps is said to have originated from a game called "Hazard," which was supposedly created sometime around 1125 AD during the Crusades. Hazard was extremely popular in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Hazard eventually came to America and transformed into craps. Craps is played in casinos all over America, but the one place it is probably played most is on the streets. Understanding how to play street craps (or "ghetto" craps) is imperative to making any money playing the game.

Instructions

  1. Play Street Craps

    • 1

Decide who is going first as the shooter. Once the shooter makes a bet, betting proceeds clockwise around the group. Each player has the option to cover part of or all of the shooter's bet. Betting goes on to each player until the shooter's entire bet is matched. The game can then continue, or the players other than the shooter can bet amongst themselves.

    • 2

Roll the "come out" roll. The come out roll is the first roll in the game. The game can end immediately if a 7, 11, 2, 3, or 12 is rolled. If a 7 or 11 is rolled, then the shooter wins the game. He takes the money. If anyone made a bet with another player that the shooter would win, they double their money (if they bet $5, they get $5). If a 2, 3, or 12 is rolled, the shooter, along with those who bet on him, lose.

    • 3

Set up a "Point" number. A Point is any number besides the numbers mentioned in Step 2. So if a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 is rolled, then it becomes the Point. Do not forget the Point.

    • 4

Next comes the Roll. The main objective for the shooter is to reroll the Point number before rolling a 7, called an "Out 7." If the shooter rolls a 7 before rolling the Point number again, then she loses, along with anyone who bet on her.

    • 5

The rolling continues until one of two things happens. If the 7 is rolled, the shooter loses. If the Point is rolled, then the shooter wins. If any other number is rolled, then the shooter picks up the dice and rolls again. The round cannot end until either an Out 7 or the Point is rolled.

    • 6

Remember that bets must be placed before the shooter makes the come out roll. Also keep in mind that if you win, you only win as much as you bet. If the shooter bet $10, but you only matched $5, then you only win $5. The other players divide the last $5 in the same fashion.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that street craps is played just like casino craps, just with a slightly different betting structure. If you want to play casino craps, you will need to learn the betting structure.
