Since Joomla!'s inception, it has been giving users a free way to make their published content on the Internet seem more professional. It also makes publishing incredibly easier. Just having Joomla!, however, isn't enough for many people. Many want features that do not come with the original software. Knowing how to install Joomla! templates can ensure that your Joomla! experience never gets predictable, and can make your Web content look even better.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ensure that you first have an official, and therefore safe, edition of Joomla!. Make sure you go directly to Joomla!'s website and download the software from there. Install the software and you are ready to go (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Click on "Templates" link listed in the Resources section below. SiteGround is said to have the biggest selection of free Joomla! templates available.

  3. Step 3

Search the templates until you find the one you want. You then need to click on the download button. You will provide your name and address to SiteGround, and they will then email the template to the email you provided.

  4. Step 4

Open your email and save the template to your computer. The file should be a zip file. Now open Joomla! and go to the administrator panel. Got to the "Installers" menu and click on "Templates--Site."

  5. Step 5

Click the "Browse" button. Then search for the zip file that you downloaded with the template in it. When you find it, click it and then click on "Upload File." Install the file. Click on "Continue" when the file is finished.

  6. Step 6

Make your new template the default template for your site (assuming that is why you downloaded it). To do this, find the name of your template on the "Template Manager" section and choose the radio button that is to the left of its name. Click the "Default" button, which should be at the top of the page.

Tips & Warnings
  • Search for the term "Joomla free template" on Google.com. Do not add the quotation marks. This will give you an even larger selection of templates.
  • NEVER pay for Joomla! or its templates. Joomla! is freeware and it is not difficult to find a template that interests you that is also free.
