Milk is an essential item in our home, and at nearly $4 a gallon I definitely stock up on it when it gets marked down to $1.80/gallon.

      If both the gallon and half gallons are on sale for the same price buy the half gallons. These freeze faster, fit better in the freezer and defrost quicker.

      Open each of the jugs and empty out an inch or so from the top to account for it expanding when frozen.

      To defrost the milk you can either place it on the counter for a couple of hours, put it in a sink full of cold water or put it in the fridge to defrost.

      When the milk is defrosted you will need to shake it thoroughly before using.

      You will want to use the milk within a few days of defrosting it.

  • The milk can remain frozen for a few months.

  • You can repackage the milk and freeze it in smaller quantities.
