How to make a Basic Cake Recipe from Scratch

Here is a nice, moist yellow cake recipe...to which you can add other flavors, or decorate up in a zillion different ways.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • CAKE FLOUR - 2 cups ( its not all purpose flour)
  • Granulated sugar - 1 and 1/2 cups
  • Unsalted Butter - 1 cup
  • Eggs - 4
  • Milk - 3/4 cup
  • Vanilla Extract - 1 and 1/2 tsp
  • Baking powder - 2 tsp
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp (optional)
  • two greased and lightly floured 8' round cake pans
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
    Grease and flour cake pans.

  2. Step 2

    Separate the egg whites and yolks, and beat the whites until soft peaks form, and set aside for now.

  3. Step 3

    Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt in separate bowl and set aside for now.

  4. Step 4

    Beat butter and sugar, until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time and beat well between each egg yolk, Stir in vanilla.

  5. Step 5

    Beat in sifted , alternately with the milk, just until incorporated, and ending with flour mixture.flour mixture.
    Using a wooden spoon, mix in egg whites.

  6. Step 6

    Pour into prepared pans, and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick test comes out clean

  7. Step 7

    Cool for 15 minutes, tap pans into a cooling rack, and let your creative juices flow!@

Tips & Warnings
  • Wonderful recipe for a cake to be frosted or added to, with flavorings. Can easily work for a Boston Cream Pie.
  • Freeze ahead of time, and you'll never be unprepared for somebody's birthday!
  • Not as quick to make as a mix, but has more body.
