How to Clean Your Coffee Maker Using White Vinegar

Having a clean coffee pot can make a big difference in the quality of your coffee.

Leftover coffee oils and hard water deposits in your coffee maker can affect the taste of coffee. They can also leave your coffee maker looking nasty. These can easily be removed using a solution consisting of white vinegar and cold water. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

• Automatic-drip coffee maker
• Bottle of white vinegar
• Cold water

Instructions

1. Mix one part white vinegar to two parts water in an amount large enough to fill the coffee pot.

2. Pour the mixture into the reservoir of your coffee maker.

3. Turn on the coffee maker and let the vinegar-water mixture cycle through.

4. Turn off the coffee maker and allow the pot to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.

5. Pour the solution down the drain and rinse the pot.

6. Cycle two full pots of cold water through the coffee maker. This will rinse the vinegar-water solution out of the coffee maker.

Tips & Warnings

• If the coffee maker you are cleaning has not been cleaned on a regular basis, you may want to make another full pot of the same white vinegar and water solution and cycle it through the coffee maker a second time.

• Clean your coffee maker thoroughly using this procedure on a weekly basis.

• Clean the outside of the coffee maker with 100 percent vinegar sprayed and wiped off.

• Do not use cold water in a hot coffee pot, as this will cause the glass pot to shatter.
