A mugging is a scary and unpleasant experience. Your main objective is to survive without serious injury. Here are a few tips that will help.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Courage
  • Common sense
  • Quick thinking
  1. Step 1

    If all the thief wants is your belongings, give them up. Your wallet is not worth your life.

  2. Step 2

    Never argue or fight with a mugger unless you feel that your life is clearly in danger.

    If this is the case, here are some tips for striking a blow at your attacker:
    a) Jab your fingers into the eyes;
    b) Stomp down on the attackers' instep;
    c) If your attacker is behind you, you can slam your elbow into the ribs;
    d) If the attacker is in front of you, try to karate chop the throat around the Adam's Apple area;
    e) If your attacker is male, use your knee to attack his groin area;
    f) If your attacker is behind you, and about your height, snap your head back forcefully-it may stun enough to give you a chance to get away.
    g) If you have keys in your hand, use them to jab or slash at the attackers' face around the eye area.
    h) Carry mace and use it.

  3. Step 3

    Try to remember details about the mugger's face so you can give a good description to the police. The police sketch artist's are amazing and can usually come up with a pretty good sketch of your mugger if you have enough details.

Tips & Warnings
  • To avoid a mugging, always walk with a companion.
  • Don't walk in a deserted area late at night.
  • Only fight back if you think you may be hurt or killed.
  • Do not provoke an attacker. Always remember that your own life is worth more than any possessions you may lose. Even if they get Grandma's wedding ring, an engagement ring, or all of the money you have, if you can walk away from the mugging unharmed, you have survived successfully.
