Here's how to keep duplicate copies of songs from taking over your iTunes library.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open iTunes. Open the View menu.

  2. Step 2

Go down to the Show Duplicates selection. This sorts your iTunes library according to duplicate tracks.

  3. Step 3

Delete the duplicate tracks by dragging them to the trash. Check the artist name and time to make sure you aren't discarding a song with the same name by a different artist, or a live performance of the same song.

  4. Step 4

If you have a lot of duplicate tracks in your iTunes library, deleting duplicates can free up to 1 gigabyte of hard drive space.
