As cute as cats can be, there is nothing cute about cat urine odor. It is probably one of the most difficult odors to eliminate. This article will give you some handy tips on how to effectively eliminate cat urine odor.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Thoroughly clean any old "urine spots" where the cat may have already done its dirty work. It is in the nature of cats to be creatures of habit, so they will return to the same spot to "handle their business" when they need to, if you don't thoroughly clean former accident scenes.

  2. Step 2

Make sure to consistently keep the litter box clean, and the cat litter fresh. Cats pride themselves in their cleanliness, so if they believe that their litter box is too soiled to use, they will find other places to do their business...unfortunately, many times those new places are some of the cleanest places in your house!

  3. Step 3

When washing any laundry that has been soiled by cat urine, add 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar along with your detergent. This adds quite a punch to the wash cycle.

  4. Step 4

Use your $11.00 and buy a bottle of Capture Pet Stain and Odor Neutralizer. Trust me, you can concoct all kinds of homemade solutions to scrub into your carpet, but at some point you have to leave it up to the professionals. Save yourself some time and heartache.

Tips & Warnings
  • Prevention is the best cure. Make sure to keep steps 1 and 2 at the forefront of your thinking.
  • Before you use any cleaning solution on your carpet, it is always advisable to spot-test an inconspicuous area just to be sure that the chemicals in the solution will not discolor your carpet.

on 12/29/2008 The tenants prior to us got back at our landlord by dumping gallons of cat pee in the closet. We ended up suffering as the new tenants. Wished I had this info then! Thanks for the tips!!!
