First see your doctor to try to find out the cause of your thinning hair. Thinning hair is usually indicative of an underlying health issue such as hypothyroidism or hormonal imbalance (especially true if your on birth control). Getting your thyroid under control or getting off of the pill can begin to halt hair loss.

If you are moderately over weight, like 25 lbs or more, try to lose at least 5% of your body weight. Being over weight can start to imbalance your hormones and trigger hair loss (I noticed an increase in hair loss when my weight is up). So even this slight 5% weight loss can help balance hormones therefore halting your thinning hair.

Take High Vitamin Cod Liver Oil together with High Vitamin Butter Oil in the morning before breakfast. These to oils work together to nourish your thyroid and endocrine system (balancing your hormones) help bring your body to optimum health. Plus they give your skin and hair the essential fats to grow strong and silky.

Start taking Organic Virgin Coconut Oil before every meal. Start with 1 teaspoon and work your way up to 2 tablespoons before every meal. Coconut oil will help in weight loss as well as balance your thyroid. Also, because of the added essential fats, your hair will be silky lessoning the chance of breakage. Since this oil is solid at cooler temperatures, you can melt your dose in a bit of warm water and sip or gulp (like a shot of tequila) before your meals.

Take an Acai Supplement daily, preferably freeze-dried. The benefits of this mighty berry are numerous, as mentioned by Dr. Perricone, but one important element is the amino acid methionine. This amino acid has many health benefits one of which is hair growth.

Three times a week use the HairMaxx Laser Comb. This device is FDA approved to promote hair growth and thicken hair. It takes about 15-20 min to do the entire scalp (I do this while I watch TV at night). In my personal experience, using the HairMaxx Comb in conjunction with my other suggestions, made my hair thicker and grow in faster.

Once a week treat your hair to a tropical oil treatment with Virgin Coconut Oil. Melt about 1/4 cup of oil over a warm stove or in your hand and rub it into your dry scalp working your way down to the tips. Leave on for at least 20 min before washing out with your favorite sulphate-free shampoo. No need to condition afterwards. This luscious oil helps to condition and strengthen hair without it feeling heavy and greasy.

Once a week, on a different day than when you do your oil treatment, give your hair a apple cider vinegar rinse. Mix 4 tablespoons of vinegar with 2 cups of warm water. While in the shower, pour this mixture over your entire scalp and leave on for 10 minutes. Wash and condition your hair as usual. The vinegar rinse helps to remove build up from products, hard water and dead skin, thus leaving your hair follicles clean and clear.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have patience. While I noticed significant hair growth in two weeks, it could take more to start seeing a difference. Give your body time to adjust to optimum health.

  • Wash your hair every other day at most. Washing it too often can dry out your hair and cause breakage.

  • It can take some time for your body to adjust to the coconut oil before the meals. If you find yourself feeling nauseous, lesson your dose and work your way up.

  • Be gentle with your scalp. Use brushes and combs with rounded tips so as not to scratch your scalp.

  • Do not pull your hair to tight when wearing it up, like in a ponytail. This can cause too much stress on already fragile hair roots.
